A WEEKEND IN SILVER STAR MOUNTAIN RESORT

If you have been following me for a while you probably already know that I live in the Okanagan. If you are new around here the Okanagan is inland from Vancouver aprox 4 ½ drive from the city.

I recently spend the weekend with my family at this local mountain resort here in the Okanagan, Silver Start resort in Venon, BC.

Our family has actually been coming up to this mountain resort for few years as our family has a place up here. We absolutely love it and every time I come up here I always get asked tons of questions about it and so I finally decided to share all of great things with you guys.

Silver Star Mountain Resort has been around for over 60 years and is considered to be one of the oldest Canadian ski resorts. It features a charming colourful mid mountain village with tons of great dining venues and ski in and ski out lodging options. This weekend we had the opportunity to do some of the activities that Silver Star offers, which we have not done before.

Skiing and Snowboarding is obviously one of the most popular things to do being as this is a ski resort. Silver Star offers 132 runs with champagne powder for those who love to ski or snowboard. I did not ski this year but my kids did and they loved every minute of it, they were gone the entire day enjoying all the fresh snow that fell during the time we were there.

If you are not skiing you can also take advantage of the Gondola and take a ride to the top and have some lunch and enjoy the views, a great way to check out more of the mountain and you don’t even have to put ski boots on.

We started out weekend off with such a great fun experience; we took a sleigh ride through the mountain to a little lodge, where we warmed up with hot chocolate. I have always wanted to do this every time I come up here but never have. We did it as a family and it was so much fun, the scenery was spectacular, and our guide was so friendly and informative about the area and the horses. It was snowing and I literally felt like I was in a hallmark movie.

As the kids skied we the adults took to the trails and did some snowshoeing. I have walked some of these trails before on foot but this was the first time we used snowshoes. I was surprised how easy it was to walk in them, gives you a bit more traction on the hills.

There is over 16 km of snowshoe trails that weave throughout the forested areas, they vary from easy to difficult and it is very easy to navigate your way to what type of trails you would like to do.

I have to say it is probably one of my favourite things I have done, it was snowing the day we went and everything looked so picturesque. The scenery was beautiful, we were getting a workout, and best of all we were having the best time. We were out there for over 4 hours exploring and enjoying the winter wonderland.

Après ski or should I say Après snowshoeing has gotta be the best part. There are so many great dining options in the village. Almost all of them are family friendly so whether you are with your family or just adults there is some great options. We stopped in at The Red Antler and warmed up with some yummy food and a glass of wine before heading back to our place and hitting the hot tub.

One of the things I love about Silver Star is that there are so many different family friendly activities to do for everyone to enjoy. On our last day we laced up our skates and did some skating at Brewers Pond. There is something about skating outside with snow capped trees that brings back so many childhood memories, it is something we do every year we go.

For the thrill seekers in your family you can speed down the hill in the tube park, my kids absolutely love this and they could spend the entire day doing this, there is a magic carpet that takes you to the top so all you have to do is relax, enjoy the views and have fun.

Skiing and snowboarding is a huge reason you would want to visit Silver Star Mountains as it is some of the best skiing ever, but if you are not a skier like me there are so many other options for you, my husband and I had the best time and we did not even ski. You can check out all the winter activities that Silver Star has to offer here.

A weekend in Silver Star is a must do this season, in one weekend we did so many fun things, Skiing, snowshoeing, sleigh ride, skating, tubing, après ski and some hot tubbing, sounds like a pretty good weekend to me. I can’t wait to go back
