There are so many things to love about winter, the snow, cozying up indoors and spending quality time with family and friends. However, the constant raind and cold can start to take a toll on your mood and while it would be nice to just jump on a plane to some exotic location it’s not always realistic. When I a little help in the mood department I’ve found that these 5 tips always help me feel bright.
Exercise: I know it always seems like exercise is the answer to everything even though we wish it wasn’t. There are days that I DREAD working out (especially now, when its raining and all I want to do is stay in bed)… but, if I can drag myself to the gym for an hour workout I know I will feel SO much better after I sweat it out!! It’s a proven fact that working out really does release “happy chemicals” into your brain.
The best way to make sure you keep youe exercise up through the winter months is to treat your workout like a meeting…with yourself! For me it works best to get my workout done first thing in the morning, I feel like it helps me to start my day off right.
Volunteer: The best feeling in the world is knowing you’re helping someone out and making a difference!! There is always someone in need but around the holidays there are SO many opportunities to lend a helping hand in your community. Whether you want to serve up meals, deliver groceries and gifts to families in need, or help out with a school fundraiser, whatever it is good for the SOUL!!!Finding an organization to volunteer at is as easy as searching the web for opportunities in your community. Even better get your friends and family involved then you can spend time with loved ones while helping other.
Bake/Cook: There is something about the sweet smell of baked goods in the kitchen that always puts me in a great mood. For me baking or cooking always helps me relieve some stress and I love that I get to share my creations with my family.
Get organized: First off for me waking up to a clean and organized home always helps me start my day off on the right foot. The holidays are quickly approaching meaning friends and family will soon be popping in and out (sometimes unexpectedly) so it’s always nice to know your home is ready for entertaining on short notice! This time of the year with all the holiday lists the best way to beat the winter blues is to make lists(make sure they are achievable) Lists are really what help me stay organized and on track through the holidays so I can actually enjoy the season with friends and family
Have a bath: For those of you that know me you know that having a bath is basically a nightly ritual, nothing beats a hot bath with your favorite bath products and some peace and qiet. This is the perfect time to just allow your thoughts to slip away, forget about the to-do list, and your busy schedule for the next day and just be still! Let yourself to fully relax.
