Around this time of year, I feel such a pull to slooooow down. The days get longer, the temps get warmer and the urge to get together with loved ones and enjoy the season is so strong. But whether you work for yourself like I do, or have a more structured 9-to- 5-, it can feel sometimes like work and summer don’t quite gel together.
The past couple of weeks have been so hectic for me with the move, trying to get settled and of course the urge to explore my new city. I am feeling a little overwhelmed. So much to do, so much to catch up on! Summer is a season when you should be enjoying yourself, even while taking care of work to-do’s!
I want to make the most of the season, to really try to do all the things on my summer bucket list somehow do this all while also being more productive than ever before. I have come up with 5 easy solutions to try to balance all these things this summer , and best of all, I could put them into action right now…
Get up earlier
I love sleeping in and am 110% not a morning person. But there’s something very unsatisfying about waking up around 7:30/8 as I have been for the last week. The couple hours in the morning I get to myself is the best time for me to get work done. By the time noon hits I have already accomplished so much for the day that I can then go and enjoy the sunshine.
Take my workouts outside
While I do love working out in the gym I’m trying to do a bit more outdoors. It had been so hot here in Kelowna so it has been tough but even a walk around the waterfront is a good way to keep active and explore the city. I am going to try to incorporate a bike ride and run outside this week to switch it up.
Change up my office space
I’ve been trying to work more on my deck in the fresh air and sunshine. If you follow me on Instagram and have seen my stories my new house has the most incredible view. Working outdoors makes it way more enjoyable, soaking in some sun while getting work done or getting a chance of scenery!
Limit my work hours
Whether you work for yourself or for someone else, it can be really hard to limit work hours. Especially being a going full-time blogger I’ve tried to be really strict about taking weekends off as much as possible. I have also learned not to be too hard on myself, if I can only to 2 blog posts a week during the summer I am OK with that. I would rather put out great insightful content then rush and have to publish 4 posts in a week.
There’s an app for that
Finally, with all the distractions that summer holds (from patio hangs with friends to kicking back in the sun with a book to a beach day), I feel like this is the key period to actually invest in improving work flow. With all the new apps and technology out there I have just started researching some apps that will improve my organization and eventually my work flow, I will let you guys know what apps I am loving after I try them out.
What about you guys? How do you switch up your summer workflow so that you can enjoy the season, or do any of you work for companies who have cool summertime policies? Would love to know in the comments below!
