Thanksgiving Day is a celebration marked as a sense of gratitude people feel for all the good things in life. Although in Canada we have already had Thanksgiving , the fourth Thursday in the month of November is marked for the yearly celebration of the American Thanksgiving.
Here are a few of the Thanksgiving traditions that have made this day so memorable and special for all Americans.
Family Reunion and Feasting
A Family feast is an important tradition during Thanksgiving. The entire family sits at the table during dinner and gives thanks and gratitude for the important things in life. It is also a time for relatives living in different places to come together and celebrate. It is one of the busiest travel holidays in the US.
Tradition of Turkey
The traditional stuffed turkey adorns every dinner table during the feast. Pumpkin pie, Cranberry sauce, and my personal favorite the candied yams are some of the dishes cooked everywhere to mark the day. There is no evidence in history to prove that turkey was eaten during the first Thanksgiving dinner, but in my opinion any thanksgiving celebration would be incomplete without it.
The annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade is a staple on every Thanksgiving. It is a must see even in my family and we are in Canada. It is kind of a symbol to start the holiday season and of course the arrival of Santa Clause. Some of you might have had the opportunity to watch this live in New York, I haven’t experienced this yet but definitely on my bucket list.
Watching NFL football during Thanksgiving is a popular tradition. The tradition is not one that I partake in but I know that in most homes Thanks giving would not be the same without Football on this day.
Start of the Christmas Craziness
After all the dishes are put away and all the family has hopefully left its time to get your shopping on with BLACK FRIDAY. I usually never start my Christmas shopping until this day knowing that pretty much everything will be on sale. HAPPY SHOPPING!
Whatever your family traditions are this Thanksgiving Day I wish all my US friends a
