WINE WEDNESDAY SPOTLIGHT: DIRTY LAUNDRY WINERY

CHEERS Friends!! It is Wine Wednesday and I am so excited to share an amazing winery with you today that I had the opportunity to visit last week. You may have seen my IG stories with a little sneak peak, but today I am profiling Dirty Laundry Winery.

Dirty Laundry is located in Summerland, only about 40 minutes from Kelowna. This was my first time visiting and I was amazed how big it was and the stunning views everywhere.

Walking into the winery I felt like I was transported into a small European village. I loved how quaint it was and how unique the décor was. You could see the small décor items everywhere that give you a small glimpse into the history of this winery, including a clothesline with laundry hanging up with clothespins. The story behind the winery is just as unique as the winery itself. There is actually a video to give you the full detailed story behind DIRTY LAUNDRY. I highly recommend checking it out HERE.

If you are planning to visit they do not require reservations for tasting or at the restaurant as it is on a first come first serve basis. The tasting room offers tasting as well as some unique wine merchandise and a self seve market with various cheeses and crackers to purchase and enjoy on the patio. They also offer an elevated tasting experience, a tasting with curated wines paired with local artisan cheeses. Space is limited for this and reservations are required.

Lets get to the wine, I had the opportunity to taste a variety of wines offered here, and it gave me a really good idea of the wine portfolio. The Winemaking here follows the same philosophy of the winery, which is WINE IS FUN. I feel like that comes through as soon as you walk into the winery and taste some of their wines. Even the wine labels and the names of some of the wines are FUN.

Check out the entire wine library they offer HERE.

Here are a few of the standout wines from my tasting:

2018 WOO WOO GEWURZTRAMINER

The nose boasts of ruby red grapefruit. On the palate you will find bright acidity with grapefruit, lychee & dried apricot with a touch of sweetness on the finish.

2019 REISLING

This wine has aromas of pear, crisp apple & candied lemon. The palate boasts of mandarin & candied pineapple. Balanced sweetness mid-palate with a beautifully dry finish.

HUSH WHITE

Aromas of ripe pear, lemon, honey & herbal notes. The slight effervescence you will find upon opening the bottle balances the bright acidity with flavors of Meyer lemon, crisp orchard fruit & slight amounts of honey on the finish.

HUSH ROSÉ

Ripe strawberries & ruby red grapefruit with bright & balanced acidity.

2017 BORDELLO

This full-bodied blend has aromas of cocoa, black plums & sage. The palate is round with flavors of vanilla, black liquorice & cured meats. The right amount of spice.

SO I DEFINETLY SAVED THE BEST FOR LAST……

This wine is being released tomorrow in the wine shop and I had the opportunity to try it while I was there so I can tell you all about it.

HUSH RED

This wine has a blend of small lot fermentations of Merlot, Malbec & Cabernet Sauvignon, sourced from hot arid vineyards in the South Okanagan.

On the nose you will find red cherry, and raspberry jam, the palate boasts of plums, cherry and chocolate covered raisins with a hint of cedar. Doesn't that sound amazing?

This would pair nicely with BBQ burgers, ribs & grilled veggies.

If you are new to red wine, kind of like me, then this is a wine that is for you, its so smooth and light, with a great fruity taste and a great start as you transition your palette into red wine.

You can go and taste it yourself in the wine shop starting tomorrow and it will be available online to purchase on October 15, 2020 as well as the liquor stores.

Dirty Laundry’s signature wine series is HUSH , which includes the WHITE, ROSÉ, and now the RED. Talk about WINE IS FUN, I really loved the design on the bottles, they have various quotes featured on them from well know people. How fun is that? You'll have to grab yourself a bottle and check them out while sipping a glass. I do have to say these 3 wines were my favourite here. I brought a few bottles home and can’t wait to open a bottle of the HUSH RED to celebrate the release. CHEERS!!!!!

I highly recommend that you give yourself enough time to enjoy the patio and grab one of their amazing pizzas. The patio at the restaurant has incredible vineyard views and even a view of the Kettle Valley Railroad. They offer a great selection of pizza; I highly recommend Fiery Affair (if you like spicy) and the BBQ bombshell. I can’t wait to go back again and try some of their other pizzas.

If you want something more then wine they also offer beer as well including several different beer flights to try.

I feel like there is something for everyone at this winery. For the wine lover, for the beer lover and for the foodie. You don't want to miss this winery on your next winery tour in the Okanagan.
