WINE WEDNESDAY SPOTLIGHT: MT. BOUCHERIE ESTATE WINERY

Mt. Boucherie Estate Winery is located along the Westside Wine Trail in West Kelowna. A short 10 minute drive from downtown Kelowna. Rolling hills filled with vineyards and scenic lake views are the perfect backdrop as you sip and taste some great Okanagan wines. The winery currently farms 200 acres in both the Okanagan and Similkameen valley, their goal is to reflect the diversity of BC wine thorough low yields, honest wine making and patient aging. The winery has recently gone through a extensive renovation and opened its newly renovated tasting room and restaurant on June 1, 2020.

As you all probably saw on my IG stories I recently had the chance to visit the new facility and all I have to say is WOW!!! I have never seen such a amazing space at a winery. The building is 3 floors and features a very expansive tasting room, The Modest Butcher Restaurant and tons of patios with the best Okanagan Views.

We started our visit with a wine tasting which is all done by reservation right now. (click here to reserve). They have done a great job at social distancing the tables for the tastings while still making it feel intimate and private. I really loved the outdoor tables set up on the lawn for the tastings. One thing I will say is that this winery really caters to what you love and will personalize your tasting for you. For me I like white wine mostly so the tasting was personalized in that way for me.

They have a wide variety of wines to choose from, their portfolio is is made in three distinct tiers.

White label wines are made in a crisp, refreshing style meant for early consumption.

The Reserves are aged for 12 – 22 months in barrel and are meant to age gracefully in your cellar.

Summit and Contessa showcasing the best blocks and barrels from their 200 acres of vines.

Ok lets get to the wines.... we went on a journey with our wine tasting getting a really good feel for all the different tiers they offer.

A bone dry Rosé with notes of watermelon, strawberry, spice, and orange zest.  This wine is a perfect aperitif but can also handle light tapas and summer salads. In my opinion a great patio wine.

A dry style of Riesling that shows bright acidity and citrus notes as well as round, tropical fruit character. Really loved the tropical taste in this wine.

A crisp, dry Gewürztraminer this vintage has much more acidity than typical- aromatic, floral, and rich. It was one of our favourites.

A hommage to the father of BC wine, noble blends of alsace, and double entendres, this is a co-fermented, skin contact, field blend of muscat, pinot gris, riesling, and gewürztraminer. Very unique flavour, like nothing I have ever tried, we loved it

Bold Chardonnay with tree fruit and oak notes framed by citrus infused acidity. This wine will continue to age for 6-10 years from the vintage.

A full bodied Chardonnay showing aromas and flavours of peach, pineapple, Meyer lemon and oak spice notes.

This wine was different then anything I have ever tried it was actually fresh and healthy and super aromatic. The grapes are Gewürztraminer which were left on the skins for 122 days.

The 2017 Summit is a proprietary red blend with intense aromas and flavours, black and red fruits, fresh tobacco, cedar, and distinct minerality.

So now that you know some of the wines we tried I will share my favourites, I would say my first favourite is the 2019 Original Vines Chardonnay. I have never been a chardonnay lover but I have to say I love what they did with this wine, it has the perfect blend of oak and citrus acidity.

My second favourite was the 2019 Eldar Vicar, as mentioned above I have never tried a wine like this and really enjoyed the blend of the different grapes, thats probably why I liked it so much it has some of my favourites. You can shop all their selection of wines here.

After all the great wines we were ready for some great cuisine. The Modest Butcher located above the tasting room was our next stop. The Modest Butcher serves up amazing, farm to table dishes offering the best dining experience with stunning Okanagan views.

The menu has a great selection from burgers, salads and pasta to some great steak options. They also offer vegetarian dishes. I have to say we had a hard time choosing as everything looked so good. We decided to start with the Charcuterie which you can never go wrong with. It did not disappoint not only was it so good it is definetly Instagram worthy.

I really liked the fact that there were vegetarian options so we decided to try the best of both worlds, we shared the Mushroom pasta as well as one of the steaks. Both were so good. Probably one of the best steaks we have ever had. Already thinking about when we can go back so we can try the other things on the menu. I highly recommend saving room for desert. We were so full but it sounded so good we ended up ordering the cookies and cream and of course finished it all, it was that good.

It is necessary to make a reservation at the restaurant so if you are planning on visiting the winery you do not want to miss out dinging here. Click here to make a reservation.

If you are looking for a one of a kind wine experience with a wide variety of unique wines and some amazing farm to table cuisine you do not want to miss this winery on your next wine tasting tourer visit to Kelowna.
